Edinburgh's Hogmanay celebrations:
Bus service alterations

Route changes on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st December 2023

Due to the Hogmanay Street Party preparations in the city centre, many bus services will follow altered routes in Edinburgh city centre from 18:00 on Saturday 30th December, and all day on Sunday 31st December 2023.

Stop closures will be in place, some routes will be altered and some services will terminate in alternative locations.

Edinburgh Trams services will also be affected all day on 31st December. 

Customers should carefully check the following information from transport operators before travelling.

Borders Buses:

Services 51, X62 & X95 will be diverted in Edinburgh city centre on Sunday 31st December.

Due to road closures, the above services will not be able to serve city centre from approx 16:00 and are expected to terminate and start from Nicholson Street.​

 

Lothian Buses (including Airlink, Skylink, Lothian Country Buses and East Coast Buses):

Daytime and evening services will be diverted at different times from 18:00 on 30th December, and all day on 31st December.

All alterations are included in our Traveline Scotland journey planner, which can be used as normal.

Services will be altered in phases during the day and into the evening on Sunday 31st December.

Midland Bluebird:

From Saturday 30th December at 18:00 until end of service on Sunday 31st December:

All Midland Bluebird X38 journeys will start /commence at Haymarket. Outbound city centre stops before Haymarket will not be served.

Scottish Citylink:

Edinburgh's Hogmanay - Service 900/909 diversions

From approx 18:00 on 31st December, services will divert on journeys FROM city centre. Stops on Princes Street and Shandwick Place will not be served at this time.

Passengers are advised to depart Edinburgh from the bus station.

Scottish Citylink will also operate a number of special services on 1st January daytime. More information.

 

Stagecoach East Scotland:

Edinburgh - Fife services:

Due to road closures for Edinburgh's Hogmanay events, Stagecoach East Scotland services departing from (and arriving in) Edinburgh city centre from 1800hrs on Sat 30th Dec until end of service on Sun 31st Dec will follow diversions.

Stops on Princes Street (including at Scott Monument) will not be served throughout. Passengers should board or alight at Edinburgh Bus Station or Queensferry Street.

Houstons Mini Coaches:

Service 101 (Edinburgh - Biggar/Dumfries) on 31st December:

Due to Princes Street being closed from 18:00hrs for the Hogmanay street party, the 20:30 journey from Edinburgh will not start at the bus station.  Customers are advised to board at Tollcross (Stop 2, Home Street) at 20:44.

Edinburgh Bus Station, Princes Street, and Lothian Road stop opposite Caledonian Hotel will not be served.

 

Edinburgh Trams:

A normal Saturday service will operate on 30th December until 1900hrs when the Hogmanay Street party road closures take effect.

From this time, the tram line will split into two sections: Trams will run between Edinburgh Airport and West End, and separately between Picardy Place and Newhaven until approx. 1000hrs on Mon 1st Jan 2024.

During this time, tram stops on Princes Street and at St Andrew Square will not be served.
